World AIDS Day 2015

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) jointly with GREMALTES Hospital will organize World AIDS Day Awareness Exhibition at Chennai Central Railway Station on 1st December 2015.

1st December is observed as World AIDS Day.  Indian Development Foundation has been organizing awareness campaigns, special talks and rallies in different project offices in India.  People from different walks of life are getting united for the common cause.

Extract from the message from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon.

This year we mark World AIDS Day with new hope.  I applaud the staunch advocacy of activists.  I commend the persistent efforts of health workers.  And I pay tribute to the principled stance of human rights defenders and the courage of all those who have joined forces to fight for global progress against the disease.

World leaders have unanimously committed to ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in September.  This commitment reflects the power of solidarity to forge, from a destructive disease, one of the most inclusive movements in modern history.

We have a lot to learn from the AIDS response.  One by one, people stood up for science, human rights and the empowerment of all those living with HIV.  And this is how we will end the epidemic:  by moving forward together.

To break the epidemic and prevent it from rebounding, we must act on all fronts.  We need to more than double the number of people on life-changing treatment to reach all 37 million of those living with HIV.  We need to provide adolescent girls and young women with access to education and real options to protect themselves from HIV.  And we need to provide key populations with full access to services delivered with dignity and respect.

Every child can be born free from HIV to mothers who not only survive but thrive. Ending AIDS is essential to the success of Every Woman, Every Child and the global strategy I launched to ensure the health and well-being of women, children and adolescents within a generation.

Reaching the fast-track targets will prevent new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths while eliminating HIV-related stigma and discrimination.  

On this World AIDS Day, let us pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives to this disease by renewing our resolve to stand for justice, access and greater hope around the world.

Sensitization Program @ST.Francis Desales High School

St Francis De Sales High School, Shathinagar attended the health sensitization program organized by Indian Development Foundation, Hyderabad at Shivananda Rehabilitation Center at Kukatpally.

The presentation was started at around 11:30am. By Dr Ananth Reddy. The main objective of the program is to create awareness regarding some of the common and vulnerable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, TB, and Non communicable diseases. Doctor emphasized that students should maintain good health in order to contribute to the nation. He shared to the students on the causative agent, preventive measures, treatment, complication and impact of the diseases to the individual and the nation.

Around 70 students along with the Teachers, School Principal Fr. Manoj have participated in this program and students have celebrated Christmas along with the leprosy inmates and have performed Skit, Dance and Carols and entertained the leprosy inmates and sponsored Lunch for the day, interacted with the inmates and share the joy of Christmas with them.

IDF AIDS awareness rally at Thiruvanamallai.

Indian Development Foundation and Vignesh International School, Vignesh Polytechnic College & Kendriya Vidyalaya, Thiruvanamallai organized World AIDS Day awareness rally on December 7, 2014. 

Though the numbers of HIV cases are coming down in India, still we need to have concern for those affected with this dreaded disease and who die out of it. We can STOP HIV/ AIDS only through proper awareness and education. World AIDS Day gives us an opportunity to take part in the massive campaign and spread the message. The only strategy seems to be prevention and control through appropriate education. Ignorance, Myths & Stigmatization even almost decades after initiation of the control programs proves to be the nemesis of the prevention controls.

World AIDS Day Exhibition at Central Railway Station at Chennai.

Indian Development Foundation (IDF), along with specialists from Gremaltes Hospital and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank organised an awareness exhibition on World AIDS Day at Central station at Chennai.

Many passenger and passerby dropped in to read the charts on display in the main waiting hall of the station. People visiting the chart area were explained the causes of the disease and also advised about the precautionary methods and care to taken to keep the infection at bay.

While promulgating the necessary awareness precautions and care were prioritized as the disease is irreversible and hence early detection is the way forward. The railway officials appreciated the efforts of Indian Development Foundation.

IDF conducts T.B. & H.I.V awareness prog.

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) organised  an awareness session about the T.B. & H.I.V in D.A.V Public school, Bangalore. Two sessions were conducted, around 350 students attended the program. Audio Visuals were shown to the students

A talk on the awareness guidelines was given by Dr. Vinod, St.Martha's Hospital, Communicable disease dept., Bangalore. Dr. Lydia a visiting doctor from Scotland, Edinburgh university accompanied Dr. Vinod and guided the students for the precautions about the same .

Charity on World Aids Day, SPS Secunderabad

"There is no higher virtue than charity" - On the ocassion of World Aids day  1st Dec 2013,  IDF organized a sensitization and charity programme for children from Secunderabad public school, Secunderabad in Sivananda rehabilitation centre, Hyderabad. 

Students of SPS school mobilized lot of food items, books, play things for children of the Ashram and presented them. Social ambassador Mr.Ramakrishnamacharyulu, teachers , students visited the Ashram and interacted with children.

World Aids Day is about recognizing the worldwide problem of Aids & infection. Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with various networking partners/ schools/ corporate team organized a World AIDS Awareness 2013 Rally at Marina Beach, Chennai.

A new drive against an old enemy

To bring in the Worlds AIDS day on 1st December, Indian Development Foundation (IDF) and Vivek Education Society jointly organized a programme, at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon (W) to acknowledge the threat of AIDS and spread awareness about the same. The programme saw an attendance of around 300 youngsters, from all across Mumbai who proudly sported the symbolic red ribbons. The students assembled at Bedrock hall, on the Vivek College campus, to be addressed by the speakers for the day. The chief guest at the gathering was Wg. Cdr. Balasubramaniam, a veteran Indian Air Force Pilot who has now dedicated himself to a life of social service and is associated with IDF. The various speakers came from diverse backgrounds, in the form of various faculty members of Vivek College, Dr. Narayan Iyer; CEO of Indian Development Foundation and Sana Rupani; from the Rotary Club of Mumbai North End.

Indian Development Foundation and Vivek Education Society jointly organized World AIDS Day programme on December 1, 2009 at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon West in North Mumbai.

About 300 students from Bharati Vidyapeeth University & Dental College, Gokuldham High School, N. M. College of Commerce, S.V.K.M. Law College, Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, T.P. Bhatia College, Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management, Vivek College of Commerce, Vivek Vidyalaya & Jr. College and Yashodham High School actively participated in the event and received vital information on HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day 2009

The year 2009 mark 21 years of fight against the menace called AIDS that had struck the humanity and still continue to destroy. It''s time to `respect & protect'' and `Stop AIDS''.

Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with Vivek Education Society will be observing World AIDS Day 2009 on 1st December 2009 at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon (West), Mumbai.

NSS volunteers and youth from different colleges in Mumbai will take part in this event. Students will speak on the topic emphasising the need for `Leadership'' to `Stop AIDS''.

The event will start at 12 noon at the Bedrock Hall (4th Floor).

Awareness is the key, says Karan Dravid

Do you know 1st December is observed as World AIDS Day all over the world, asked the 9 year old boy Karan Dravid.

Karan Dravid, a class 4 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya MEG & Centre, Bangalore and IDF's youngest social ambassador was invited as a guest speaker to speak on importance of health on World AIDS Day.
As part of the World AIDS Day, Indian Deveopment Foundation organized a health awareness programme at Kendriya Vidyalaya ASC Centre, Bangalore where Karan Dravid addressed around 2500 students.

AIDS is a great killer these days which is caused by a virus called HIV. We cannot see through our naked eye, Karan said with a smile. The virus decreases our resistance power to fight against disease, he added.

People should know more about the disease and its bad results. We can only stop AIDS by creating awareness, Karan said.

He later recited Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's "Song of the Youth" and said that the student life was right time to get introduced to social service programs. Dr. S. Franklin, Manager of IDF, thanked Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan for their staunch support for social causes. Dr. Franklin spoke on the scientific facts about HIV/AIDS exhorted senior students to participate in social awareness programmes.

While congratulating Indian Development Foundation's role in health, education and development area, Mrs. Rajini Khoda, Vice Principal of the school also applauded Karan Dravid's involvement in social work at a young age and advised the other students to emulate his example.

Stop AIDS, Keep the promise

Indian Development Foundation and Vivek Education Society organized World AIDS Day Campaign on December 1, 2008 at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon West in North Mumbai.

About 300 students from Class IX to final year degree college formed the major audience who received the vital information on HIV/AIDS.

Though the numbers of HIV cases are coming down in India, still we need to have concern for those affected with this dreaded disease and who die out of it. We can STOP HIV/ AIDS only through proper awareness and education. World AIDS Day gives us an opportunity to take part in the massive campaign and spread the message, said Dr. W.S. Bhatki.

Dr. W. S. Bhatki, Director of Maharashtra Lokahita Seva Mandal (former Project Director for Mumbai District AIDS Control Society) and Chief Guest for the programme stressed on faith, love and joy. Youth in this country should know the importance of life and help to build a healthy society, stressed Dr. Bhatki.

Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, National Co-ordinator of IDF interacted with the students and said, good nutrition and medical care can increase bodily strength and delay the onset as well as the frequency of opportunistic infections.

Mr. Suresh Nair, Principal, Vivek Vidyalaya & Junior College stressed on the statistical details and the rising problem in India. He said early detection is crucial which helps quick medical support and thereby increasing the lifespan of the patient. Prof. P. Thangadurai, NSS Co-ordinator, Vivek College of Commerce exhorted the students to come forward and fight against the dreaded disease.

Sashikala Gounder, Abhishek Panchal, and Sneha Thampy spoke on the topic. The students in their speech stressed on massive health awareness and education to stop the spread of the disease. Community participation and love for the children affected with HIV were also some of the points the students touched upon.

Mrs. Nilu Khosla, Principal incharge of Vivek College of Commerce said young students are all set to lead a national campaign on HIV/AIDS to stop the menace caused by the disease.

Bedrock hall was fully decorated with messages and vital information on HIV/AIDS. Colourful banners, posters, charts and newsclippings gave more impetus to campaign.

Red Ribbons were distributed to all the participating students while pamphlets on HIV/AIDS were exchanged for more knowledge. Students and dignitaries joined in lighting candle to mark the World AIDS Day and pledging to fight against the disease. Dr. Sharad Nayampally and Mr. Sanjay Waghmare from IDF co-ordinated the event with the NSS volunteers of the college.

Stop AIDS, Keep the Promise was the slogan raised by the students as they lighted the candles. People need to respect and protect themselves to stop AIDS, the students said.

* Unprotected sexual intercourse. This is the commonest mode of transmission.
* HIV positive mother to child during pregnancy, child birth and breast-feeding.
* Receiving blood transfusion of HIV positive blood.
* Sharing or using infected needles, blades and syringes.

HIV/ AIDS does not spread due to
** Touching, shaking hands, hugging or using the same toilets.
** Sneezing, coughing or eating from the same plate.

World AIDS Day

'Godh Bharai' is endorsed by well known actress Sharmila Tagore, who highlights that a range of interventions (medicines) can reduce the risk of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. The primary effort is being directed to consult a doctor during pregnancy and take medicines which are freely available at all Government hospitals to prevent the transmission of HIV from HIV positive mothers to their infants during pregnancy, labour, delivery and breastfeeding.

India has 5.7 mn infected with AIDS

The only strategy seems to be prevention and control through appropriate education.

Ignorance, myths, and stigmatisation even almost three decades after AIDS was defined and the HIV virus isolated, remains the nemesis of the disease control programmes. In a country like India, socio-cultural barriers come in the way of containing its spread. From one case detected in 1986 the number of HIV infected has risen to 5.7 million making India the second largest population of infected people in the world today.........................

............................Peer education schemes can be started to address youngsters who are not into the formal education set-up. Only then can we aim to reverse the epidemic and nurture a healthy generation.

300 Students from class XI onwards formed the major audience who received the vital information on HIV/AIDS.

Rev. Sr. Bertilla Capra, Director of Vimala Dermatological Centre and Chief Guest for the programme stressed on faith, love and joy. Youth in this country should know the importance of life and help to build a healthy society, stressed Sr. Bertilla.

Pillai, President of IDF spoke on scientific information on HIV/AIDS while Mr. Suresh Nair , Principal, Vivek Vidyalaya & Junior College stressed on the statistical details and the rising problem in India.
