IDF Foundation Day, Mumbai

Indian Development Foundation released Grants to leprosy/ TB and education projects in Mumbai. Social Action Awards to Schools- Principals- Teachers-Students- Social Ambassadors- Bal Gurukuls- W2K Team/ IDF CSR Awards to Corporate Leaders for supporting social projects. 

Chief Guest was Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Distinguished Nuclear Scientist of India and Dr. Vandana Lulla, Director, Podar International School (IB) -    

Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai, Director, Chanakya Institute of Public Leadership, University of Mumbai - Mrs. Vatsala Mathai, Principal, The Elite English School, Dubai were Guests of Honour.  

Mother Teresa Memorial Award was presented to Podar International School for excellence in social work. Students from St.Catherine's School and Mona Remedial Education Centre set the tone for the event with a soulful invocation prayer dance.

IDF Grants/Awards Function at Tamil Nadu

Indian Development Foundation released Grants to leprosy/ TB and education projects in Tamil Nadu and Kerala Regions. Principals, Teachers and Students from various schools in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were honoured for their excellent social performance and support. 

Mother Teresa Memorial Award 2013-14 for TN Region was presented to SBOA School & Junior College, Chennai. 

Mr. S. M. Saleem, Dy.Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was the Chief Guest for the event. Guests of Honour - Mr. D. Thomas Franco Rajendra Dev (Secretary & Correspondent, S.B.I.O.A Educational Trust, Chennai), Mr. J. Ravichandran (CEO, GLRA India) and Dr. Ambika Kameshwar (Founder - Director, Rasa - Ramana Sunritya Aalaya, Chennai)  - appreciated the work of IDF. 

Dr. ARK Pillai complimented and thanked all the social supporters. IDF grants are given out of donations received from public. IDF is committed to spread smiles all around.  Awards to Corporate Team, NGO Partners and Social Ambassadors were given at this function. Kendriya Vidyalaya No.2, Tambaram, Chennai played soulful music and set to tone for the function.  Students from Ethiraj College volunteered and co-ordinated.

Blessings from Prof. M.S. Swaminathan

Team IDF called on Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman Emeritus, MSSR Foundation at Taramani, Chennai on 8th Aug 2014 and conveyed birthday greetings. Prof. M.S.Swaminathan, the father of Green Revolution in India celebrated his 89th birthday on 7th Aug 2014. Team IDF (Dr. ARK Pillai, Dr. Narayan Iyer, Dr. S. Franklin and Mr. S. Sreeram) gave an update on IDF national programmes and received blessings from Prof. M.S. Swaminathan.

Prof. M S Swaminathan has been described by the United Nations Environment Programme as “the Father of Economic Ecology” and by Javier Perez de Cuellar, Secretary General of the United Nations, as “a living legend who will go into the annals of history as a world scientist of rare distinction”.

A plant geneticist by training, Prof. Swaminathan’s contributions to the agricultural renaissance of India have led to his being widely referred to as the scientific leader of the green revolution movement. In 1999, Time magazine placed him in the Time 20 list of most influential Asian people of the 20th century.

Prof. Swaminathan is a Fellow of many of the leading scientific academies of India and the world, including the Royal Society of London and the U S National Academy of Sciences. He has received over 60 honorary doctorate degrees from universities around the world.

Indian Development Foundation had conferred on him the prestigious Mother Teresa Memorial Award in Oct 2010 for his outstanding contributions as leader of the Green Revolution movement, piloting leprosy elimination efforts and championing for a hunger-free India.

IDF Grants/Awards Function at Bangalore

IDF Grants - Awards function for Karnataka region was held on 6th August 2014 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore. Highlights : Release of IDF Grants to leprosy/ TB/ HIV-AIDS and education projects in Karnataka. Honours to schools and students for their excellent social responsibility and honours to social workers and institutions. 

Chief Guest : Sri N. Chandashekhar, Dy Director, Doordarshan and Guests of Honour : Dr. Sr. Lydia Fernandes (Apostolic Carmel) and Dr. H. Sudarshan (VGKK-BR Hills) hailed people's participation in development work. 

Dr. ARK Pillai, founder President, IDF thanked all the supporters. IDF team geared up for goodness unlimited. Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Karnataka Region was presented to Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Panambur, Mangalore for excellence in social work (2013-14).

Indian Development Foundation Grants/ Awards function for Telangana & Andhra Pradesh Regions was organized at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium, Hyderabad on 2nd Aug. 2014. Projects in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh regions received grants for leprosy/ TB and education project. 

Schools, Principal and Students received Social Action Awards for 2013-14. Bhavan’s Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, Sainikpuri, Secunderabad received Mother Teresa Memorial Award for excellent social work in Telangana. 

Chief Guest : Prof. Lakshmi Lingam, Dy. Director, TISS (Hyd). 

Guests of Honour : Ms. R. Kalavathi (Dy. Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan), Mrs. Seetha Kiran (Regional Director, DAV Public School), Dr. B. Karunakar (Director, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) and Mr. P. Madhusudhan Rao (Educationist & Philanthropist).

Dr. Pushpa Mittra Bhargava- IDF steps towards strengthening scientific temper.

Founder of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and widely regarded as the architect of modern biology in India, Padma Bhushan Dr. Pushpa Mittra Bhargava appreciated the work of IDF. Team IDF called on Dr. P.M. Bhargava at Hyderabad on 31-07-2014.

King of comedy appreciates national leprosy work of IDF on the eve of Anti-leprosy day.

King of comedy Johny Lever appreciated the leprosy eradication work of Dr. ARK Pillai spanning 45 years. Dr. Pillai is an icon of inspiration who along with various social organizations and volunteers have been working hard towards achieving the vision of Mahatma Gandhi - a leprosy-free India. 

Johny Lever called on Dr. Pillai and team IDF on the eve of Anti-Leprosy Day and commended the humanitarian work carried out by Indian Development Foundation (formerly Indian Leprosy Foundation).

Life provides wonderful opportunity to spread happiness and see that people around are healthy and happy. Johny Lever was addressing a group of volunteers motivating them with his personal life-story and the journey of life which is full of giving and sharing joy. Being associated with various social organizations, Johny Lever could connect the social chord and left an indelible social impact in the young minds.

Shri Amitabh Bachchan lauds IDF work

Indian Development Foundation has been selected as an NGO partner for the Rural Electrification Project through Solar Lamps.  The dream project is initiated by Harivanshrai Bachchan Trust and Urja Foundation.  The project was announced by Shri Amitabh Bachchan on his 71st Birthday and officially launched on 19th Nov. 2013 at Mumbai.

Shri Amitabh Bachchan presented a memento of appreciation from HBT and Urja Foundation to Dr. ARK Pillai, founder President, Indian Development Foundation for his leprosy eradication efforts in India.  He was greatly impressed and touched by Dr. Pillai's humanitarian work for over 4 decades. 

Dr. Narayan Iyer, CEO, IDF presented Dr. Pillai's biography `Hope on the Horizon' and congratulated the Legend for the dream project in powering rural India with solar lamps. IDF through its networking partners will take up the task of providing solar lamps in rural areas which are off-grid.

Kurai Ondrum Illai..... A musical tribute to Dr. V. Shanta by Neela Saraswathi Bal Gurukul Team. The team was led by Mrs. Sriranjani Ajay, IDF Social Ambassador.

Indian Development Foundation honoured Dr. V. Shanta with the Mother Teresa Memorial Award 2013. The award, which included a statue of Mother Teresa, shawl and citation, was presented by Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Founder Chairman of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. He said, "The Ramon Magsaysay [Award Foundation] recognized her for the compassion and humanism. Her presence is a source of inspiration and guidance."

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) Project Co ordinator Mr. P. Sanjay Ram greets former president Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam was presented flowers and painting from the children. He was very happy to receive the gifts from children.

IDF appreciates services of Fr. George Kannanthnum, Director Leprosy rehabilitation programme, Sumanhalli, Karnataka.

Fr. George Kannanthnum, Director of Summanahalli, Leprosy rehabilitation programme  transferred to Doddaballalur. Fr George has been working for more than 25 years to enhance the quality of life by bringing dignity and justice for the most marginalized groups in Karnataka and specially in Bangalore. He has  taken several initiatives to provide services for the prisoners, alcoholics, leprosy patients, HIV patients and the persons with disabilities. 

 Fr. Peter assumed office as the new Director of Sumanahalli on the 15th of June 2013. Fr. George Kannathanum, Director  has been a great friend to IDF and had extended extraordinary support during his tenure at Sumanahalli. IDF conveys heartfelt greeting to him and wish him all the best in his new assignment.

Olympian and India's Hockey Champion Dhanraj Pillay supports TB Cause.

Hockey Legend has endorsed the message for a Multi-Lingual TB Awareness Poster which will be distributed across India to create a massive awareness. "TB is curable, Our Goal - a TB-free World" - Dhanraj Pillay. 

The Awareness Poster was launched by Dr.A.R.K.Pillai, Dr. A.P.Jayaraman, Mr. Rajiv Phadke, Rtn. Aunali Rupani, Mrs. Rekha Bajaj, Dr. Narayan Iyer, Mrs. Neeti Sampat, Prof. Mark Nowacki and Prof. Jerome Le Dall on 24/02/2013 a month before the World TB Day which falls on 24/03. IDF young social ambassador Master Sahil Rupani along with all the social ambassadors and volunteers across India will join hands to spread the message.

IDF had earlier got the support of Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand, Cricket Legend Anil Kumble, India's No.1 Women Boxing Champion Mary Kom, Tennis Legend Leander Paes and Olympian and India's Ace Shooter Gagan Narang supporting TB cause.

For 2013, Olympian and Hockey Legend Dhanraj Pillay has come forward to support the cause..... IDF is committed to stop TB.

Lt.Gen Ajai Barnabas Masih  guides Students of Vivek Vidyalaya to Control and Manage anger.

Lt. Gen. Ajai Barnabas Masih (Retd), UYSM was invited by Vivek Vidyalaya in Mumbai where he addressed the students of IX to control and manage their anger. He empowered the students in not only controlling and managing their anger but also shared tips on channelizing their anger in constructive way. He shared various tips and his experience on the same. Many students had their queries to which he gave apt and quick solutions. Around 500 students and some teachers were present in the seminar.
Dr. Suresh Nair, Principal expressed his sincere gratitude to to Lt. Gen. Ajai Masih and team IDF - Dr. ARK Pillai and Dr.Narayan Iyer for arranging such a meaningful programme. The talk was arranged on 01-02-2013.

Ajai Masih empowered the teachers with his life experience and highlighted on the role of teachers in carving out a new society.  While he complimented the teachers for handling students with great care and attention, Lt. Gen.  Masih also touched upon adding time management along with life skills beyond academics.

Ms. Josephine Vas, Head - IGCSE/ IBDP, Jamnabai Narsee School expressed her sincere thanks to Lt. Gen. Ajai Masih and team IDF - Dr. ARK Pillai and Dr.Narayan Iyer for arranging such a meaningful programme.

Republic Day reception at the Raj Bhavan hosted by His Excellency Shri Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Maharashtra. It was a matter of great joy to meet celebrities drawn from top civil, defence, police, administrative, professional, business, clergy, social fields, exchanging greetings and pleasantries. HE Governor, accompanied by his wife met all those present.

Vivek Alumni Association Goregaon organized a lecture by Dr. Ratanjit S. Sondhe, Founder Discoverhelp Foundation, Ohio, USA as part of Golden Jubilee lecture series on 2nd Jan 2013. Dr. Sondhe delivered his lecture on The secret of ultimate success and stress-free life.Teachers from Vivek Vidyalaya and Junior College and Vivek college of Commerce attended the lecture and got motivated at the beginning of the year.Dr. Suresh Nair, Dr. Nandita Roy and VAA members expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Sondhe.
