It was a great honour to be part of the closing ceremony of the month-long world environment day celebrations concluded this morning at Ryan International School, Goregaon (E), Mumbai. The students did their best to sensitize people and create awareness on environment protection. Special skits, songs, poster making, slogans and also cycleathon were organized by the students to create awareness. It was a great honour to be among the bubbling and enthusiastic young minds. IDF-USA successfully conducted a program "On Genetic Influence in the Development of Cardiovascular Disease Conditions"

IDF-USA successfully conducted a program "On Genetic Influence in the Development of Cardiovascular Disease Conditions" on May 17, 2015 at Econolodge Melrose park.

Thanks for the support from members of St. Thomas Church, DT Team, friends and supporters of IDF USA. Dr. Sakthi and Aravind gave an insight on the genetic issue faced especially by the South Asian Community which was well executed, 47 blood samples were collected during the event for the study. Special thanks to Professor Annie and Mr. Thomas Abraham for arranging the event and for providing banquet facilities. IDF USA will be conducting many similar programs in the future for the benefit of our community.

Organs Protection Awareness @ Marina Beach, Chennai.

 Indian Development Foundation and M. V. Hospital for Diabetes, Royapuram, jointly organized Diabetes awareness exhibition under the caption of “Protect Your Organs’ at the lighthouse, Marina Beach, Chennai.

            Diabetes is recognized today as a major lifestyle disease and India has become the Diabetes Capital of the world with 65 million people having Diabetes.  The figure is likely to go up to 101.1 million by 2030.

Key facts – WHO

• In 2014 the global prevalence of diabetes was estimated to be 9% among adults aged 18+ years.  In 2012, an estimated 1.5 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes.
• More than 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low and middle - income countries.
• WHO projects that diabetes will be the 7^th leading cause of death in 2030.

Diabetes Mellitus is reaching potentially epidemic proportions in India. The level of morbidity and mortality due to diabetes and its potential complications is enormous. They pose significant healthcare burdens on both families and society. It is a matter of grave concern diabetes is now being shown to be associated with a spectrum of complications and to be occurring at a relatively younger age within the country. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vijay Viswanathan, Head & Chief Diabetologist, M. V. Hospital for Diabetes and Prof. M. Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre, Royapuram mentioned that” Diabetes was the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults aged between 20 – 74 years and is the leading cause of kidney failure accounting for 44% of all the new cases of kidney failure. More than 60% of non traumatic lower limb amputations occur in diabetes and the risk of heart attack and stroke is two to four times higher in diabetes”. According to a study by Prof. M. Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre in 2010, the cost of Diabetes Mellitus treatment in India is 1230 billion Indian rupees.

Mr. S. Sreeram, Manager TN, IDF said “Psychosocial factors play a crucial role in diabetes management. Though 41% of people with diabetes have poor psychological well-being, only about 10% receive psychological care in India there is a need for more in-depth education and awareness to empower the patient to self-manage his diabetes”

Earlier Mr. Murugesan, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Mylapore was the Chief Guest and inaugurated 'Protect your Organs' exhibition at the Lighthouse.

Team IDF launched creative TB Awareness posters in Bangalore and presented it to Dr. Arundathi Das, Project Co-ordinator (T.B.), BBMP, Bangalore on 20-04-2015. The TB Awareness Posters designed in both English and Kannada languages, with the helpline numbers, will be put up by the health workers/ volunteers at the private/ public clinics in Bangalore. Dissemination of information will help patient-doctor connect and the importance of regularity in treatment.

Indian Development Foundation thank L&T for sponsoring the posters as part of their social responsibility initiative. 

IRCTC with IDF conducted a Road Safety Awareness Program

IRCTC with IDF conducted a Road Safety Awareness Program for the taxi and auto drivers in Secunderabad railway station.

Dr. Srinivas from Road Safety Club and P. Sanjay Ram conducted the program. South Central railway IRCTC deputy general manager Mr. Subramanyam emphasised that this program is useful to all and more are awareness must be done.

Mr. S. Govindasamy, IRTS, Station Manager, Chennai Central was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the TB awareness exhibition.

Mr. Govindasamy said " People should know about TB and such kind of awareness campaigns bring more awareness among general public and railways always support such awareness programmes".  He thanked IDF and GREMALTES for selecting the Chennai central for such awareness campaigns. 

Scouts and Guides from KV 2, Madambakkam and Students from Sri Shanthi Anand Vidyalaya distributed pamphlets and supported the event.

IDF News on World TB Day in The New Indian Express, Chennai

World TB Day Awareness Rally at Marina Beach.

Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with Gremaltes Hospital and a large number of students for educational institutions organized a massive TB awareness rally at Marina Beach, Chennai on the eve of World TB Day 2015.

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Director, National Tuberculosis Research Centre, Chennai, Chief Guest for the World TB Day Mass Awareness Rally at Marina Beach, Chennai, flagged off the rally and wished all the participants good luck as they march ahead in stopping TB.

IDF and GREMALTES Hospital jointly organised a TB awareness exhibition at the Lighthouse.

On the occasion of the World  TB Day 2015: Indian Development Foundation and GREMALTES Hospital jointly organised a TB awareness exhibition at the Lighthouse .

Mr. Ramdoss, Director of  the Lighthouse and light ships was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion he said "  Such kind of awareness is required among the general public and the public get awareness of tuberculosis. He thanked the Indian Development Foundation and GREMALTES Hospital for choosing the lighthouse for organising the awareness exhibition."

 Mr. S.Sreeram, Manager of the Indian Development Foundation said " TB is completely curable with regular treatment of DOTS and the patients never skip the medicine.

TB medicines are freely available in Government hospitals. Awareness is the key he added."

Scouts and Guides from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Madambakkam and students from the Sri Shanthi Anand Vidyalaya were assisted and distributed TB awareness pamphlets to the visitors.

Road Safety Awareness Program for School Bus Drivers

Road Safety Awareness Program for School Bus Drivers  and attenders of Silver Oaks - The School of  Hyderabad.

Mr.Praveen Rao, Deputy Transport Commissioner RR district as chief guest for the program.

100 drivers and attenders attended the session which was for 2 and 1/2 hours.
In this school recently there was a tragedy where in child and mother were killed in a road accident while going back from school.The school management has decided to take up road safety as a matter of serious concern and as a first step this program was arranged. In the second phase sessions will be conducted to train the trainers in school, start junior road safety club, and also one session for parents is planned.

Mr. Dhanunjay Rao, director of the school and Mr. Praveen rao DC RTA Hyderabad both appreciated the efforts of IDF and road safety club to create awareness on road safety.
