Indian Development Foundation organized the Word Anti Leprosy Fortnight 2017 which concluded on 13.02.2017 at the Public Health Centre , Kolathur, Mettur Taluk, Salem District, Tamil Nadu.

Anti-Leprosy Day observed at Trichy

Indian Development Foundation and Sagayamatha Medical Centre jointly conducted with anti leprosy day programme at Sagayamatha Hospital, Pullambadi, Trichy on 30th January 2016. 

 

Rev.Fr.Dr. S. Gasper, Director  of Sagayamatha Leprosy Hospital welcomed the gathering and appreciated their people's participation in leprosy work. 

Dr. S. Karthikeyan, Block Medical Officer and Dr. Ms. Jeevan, gave special talk on leprosy awareness.  Mr. Devadass, Correspondent, Child Jesus Matriculation High School also spoke at the function.

Students from nursing college took part in the citizens reach-out meet.  Mr. J. Solomon Raja, IDF Development Executive, co-ordinated the public event and thanked all the participants.

The inmates thanked the organizers as they received dress materials and eats at the event.

Anti Leprosy Day Programme at Gremaltes Hospital

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) and GREMALTES jointly organised Anti Leprosy Day programme at GREMALTES Hospital today.

Mr. Wilson, Vice principal of the Sacred Heart Mat. Hr. Sec. School, Padi, Chennai  was the chief guest  for  the function and congratulated the IDF and GREMALTES for organising the function and taking care of the leprosy patients. He wished the patients a speedy recovery.

Mr. S. Sreeram, Manager of Indian Development Foundation said " IDF observing the anti leprosy for last 3 decades and support the leprosy patients in all possible way.

Mr. Sreenivasalu, Health Education officer, GREMALTES Hospital said " they have cured more than 65,000 patients and they will continue to support the leprosy patients.

Mrs. P. Maggi, Nursing -In charge, GREMALTES Hospital said " they were providing best care to the leprosy patients'.

Ms. T. Vincy, Medical Counsellor,  GREMALTES list out the various services provided by GREMALTES Hospital for the leprosy patients and deal with the emotional problems of the Leprosy patients.

The patients also thanked IDF and GREMALTES Hospital for the support extended to them from time to time.

World Anti-Leprosy Day 2015

The martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi (30th January) is observed as Anti-leprosy day throughout the world. It is also called "International Anti-leprosy day". NGOs, international voluntary agencies and government machineries observe a week-long programme starting from 30th Jan. to 5th Feb. giving scientific information on leprosy to the masses and sensitising the public on the disease. Various activities in public places are organised for disseminating message on leprosy.

SOMETIME IN 1945, Prof. T. N. Jagadisan invited Mahatma Gandhi to inaugurate the Kasturba Kushta Nivaran Nilayam building in Tamil Nadu. Gandhiji wrote back, "Get someone to open it; opening a hospital is not a big matter, but I shall come to close it.'' By this Gandhiji meant that leprosy should be soon eliminated so that there won't be any need for leprosy hospitals.

Mahatma Gandhi's cherished dream of a leprosy-eliminated India has come true. Thanks to the support of the various NGOs, national and international bodies along with the Government machinery, the number of leprosy cases has come down from 40 lakhs in 1982 to 1.27 lakh today. Since the prevalance rate of leprosy has come down to less than 1 per 10,000 population in India, the govt. has declared that leprosy has been eliminated.

Leprosy is completely curable today. An air-borne disease caused by mycobacterium leprae, leprosy was a scourge of humanity and it carried a lot of misconceptions. Leprosy is a socio-medical problem. Though the number of leprosy cases has come down, the stigma still prevails. A lot need to be done with regard to rehabilitation of persons affected with leprosy (PALs).

Social stigma continues to haunts the patients though a lot of awareness campaigns  had been conducted. We could find new cases being detected in some regions.  Medical team and social workers are on the move to reach-out to the needy people.

Indian Development Foundation (formerly Indian Leprosy Foundation) team will be covering up government schools and other educational institutions during the week disseminating scientific information on leprosy during the week.  Also distribution of blankets and MCR chappels to the needy patients will be distributed by IDF Team.  Students' participation in leprosy elimination programmes needs to be written in the letters of gold. IDF is committed to leprosy elimination work. 

Sensitization Program @ST.Francis Desales High School

St Francis De Sales High School, Shathinagar attended the health sensitization program organized by Indian Development Foundation, Hyderabad at Shivananda Rehabilitation Center at Kukatpally.

The presentation was started at around 11:30am. By Dr Ananth Reddy. The main objective of the program is to create awareness regarding some of the common and vulnerable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Leprosy, TB, and Non communicable diseases. Doctor emphasized that students should maintain good health in order to contribute to the nation. He shared to the students on the causative agent, preventive measures, treatment, complication and impact of the diseases to the individual and the nation.

Around 70 students along with the Teachers, School Principal Fr. Manoj have participated in this program and students have celebrated Christmas along with the leprosy inmates and have performed Skit, Dance and Carols and entertained the leprosy inmates and sponsored Lunch for the day, interacted with the inmates and share the joy of Christmas with them.

Health Camp conducted at Y.M.C.A Coonoor, jointly organized by Embrace a village, Maruthamalai, Coimbatore, for poor leprosy patients.

Mr.Mano Ranjit IDF Social Ambassador coordinated the event.

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) conducts TB & Leprosy awareness at NREGA working site fir the workers in Valavanthan, Kottai and Periyar Nagar. Most of the women in this part of rural area work for NREGA scheme.

Anti Leprosy Program, Trichy

Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with Sagayamatha Leprosy Hospital, Pullambadi - Govt. Health Primary Centre, Thirumanur - Lions Club of Kallakudi at Trichy organized World Anti-Leprosy Day on 06-02-14. 

2500 students participated in the awareness rally and leprosy-affected persons were given MCR chappals. Ms. Manimala and Mr. Solomon from IDF, Trichy co-ordinated the entire event with a human touch.

Anti Leprosy Day 2014 and Reach out program at Mangalore & Coimbatore.

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) and St. Josephs Leprosy Hospital, Mangalore, Niligiris Leprosy Eradiciation Scheme organized free skin camp in Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School Thumbay Bantwal and Coimbatore. Rev. Fr. Rudolf D'sa-  Administrator Fr. Muller Medical College, Sr. Aileen-  Nursing Superintended Dr. Jacintha Martis-  Prof. Dermatology Dept. and Dr. Kiran Shetty attended the program.

About 500 students and teachers attended the program. Important information on Leprosy and other skin disease were given to them. Free skin camp were conducted for all the students, teachers and other surrounding people and free medicines, ointment were given by Fr. Mullers Hospital.

WORLD ANTI-LEPROSY DAY REACH OUT PROGRAMME, COONOOR

The World Anti-Leprosy Day Reach out programme was jointly organized by Indian Development Foundation (I.D.F) and Coonoor Grace Charitable Trust (C.G.C.T) at St. John's Church Parish Hall on 29th Jan, 2014.  The programme started off with a Prayer Song by Mrs. Bullmore’s Mat. School, Coonoor followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Guests  and a Prayer by Rev. Arul Raj of St. John’s Church, Coonoor.  Mr. D. Mano Ranjit Lad, D.E. of Indian Development Foundation, spoke on the Vision and Mission of I.D.F. 

Later, Rev. Fr. Leon Prabhakaran, Parish Priest of Sagayamatha Church, Coonoor addressed, while speaking on this occasion he said that both I.D.F. and C.G.C.T. have done a wonderful job helping the sick and the needy.  He also said that mankind is manhandling human beings, such programmes will help us to think about our own way of life.  He also quoted about the service of Mother Teresa to the poor and the needy. 

He concluded the session by appreciating the good work by both the N.G.Os.  Dr. K. Srinivasan Pothi, Medical Officer, FPAI, Nilgiris Branch spoke on the occasion and said that both the N.G.Os have taken good efforts in organizing the program, he also appreciated the good work and gave a detailed note about their work in Nilgiris. 

The Chief Guest, Mr. K. Laxmanan, District Educational Officer addressed the gathering, while speaking he said that both the N.G.Os  have set a good example for one and all to serve the sick and the needy people.  Since the students were also present, he encouraged them saying that, you may have several skills, to become a Doctor, Engineer, Teacher, etc., but you should remember, above all this, you should never forget to love your neighbor and serve the mankind.  

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Laxmanan also said he was overwhelmed with joy in participating in such programmes.  Later the guests distributed blankets and gifts like  towel, plate, glass, soap and biscuits for more than 100 poor Leprosy/AIDS, TB and physically challenged patients.  Lunch was sponsored by Mr. Ram from Coonoor for all the patients. Earlier, Mr. D. Mano Ranjit Lad, D.E., I.D.F. welcomed the gathering and Mr. Gibson C.G.C.T. proposed the vote of thanks.  

The function concluded with at National Anthem by the students of Mrs. Bullmore’s Mat. School, Coonoor.  In the afternoon, there was health camp for the Leprosy patients, at Y.M.C.A. hall, Coonoor, during which medicines and M.C.R. chappals were also distributed to them.
