Blankets Distribution at Purvi Champaran

Indian Development Foundation organised blanket distribution to poor and needy leprosy patients at Dhaka Kushthashram at Purvi, Champaran, Bihar. Mr. Thomas, Gen. Secretary, Kust Niwaran Society, Patna organised in distributing the blankets to the needy leprosy persons.

Every year we conduct New Year celebrations with leprosy patients and children of Vimala Centre, distribute gifts, eats and items of daily use. Such Citizens' Reach-out programme has gained momentum over twenty five years now.

Citizens from different walks of life will gather at the centre to greet the inmates and children during the festive occasion. Leprosy patients on this occasion get the happy feeling that there are kind-hearted citizens who consider them as part of society and care for their welfare. Ingraham Institute's Social Initiative

Ingraham Institute, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh supports IDF's health, education and rural development programmes. Dr. Hepesh Shepherd, Director of the Institute congratulated the social work of IDF in the areas of leprosy/ TB programme and felt happy that his students could be a part of the entire social responsibility activities.

Mrs. Arpana Ruth, Principal of Ingraham Institute English School - Mrs. Mohini Sampson, Principal, Ingraham English School (GT Road) and Mrs. T Pershad, Headmistress, Ingraham Primary School exhorted the students to come forward and support social programmes of IDF. The students also created awareness on leprosy/ Tuberculosis to the family members and their contacts.

Handing over the donation cheques to Dr. Narayan B. Iyer of IDF at a special function organised at Ingraham auditorium on 5th Dec., Bishop Rev. S.S. Singh appreciated the social efforts of all the students in Ingraham Institute and said the contribution presented by the students are like Christmas gifts to the poor and the needy.

Awareness and Acceptance is the key to stop the threat of AIDS

Indian Development Foundation and Vivek Education Society jointly organized World AIDS Day programme on December 1, 2009 at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon West in North Mumbai.

About 300 students from Bharati Vidyapeeth University & Dental College, Gokuldham High School, N. M. College of Commerce, S.V.K.M. Law College, Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, T.P. Bhatia College, Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management, Vivek College of Commerce, Vivek Vidyalaya & Jr. College and Yashodham High School actively participated in the event and received vital information on HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day 2009

The year 2009 mark 21 years of fight against the menace called AIDS that had struck the humanity and still continue to destroy. It''s time to `respect & protect'' and `Stop AIDS''.

Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with Vivek Education Society will be observing World AIDS Day 2009 on 1st December 2009 at Vivek College of Commerce, Goregaon (West), Mumbai.

NSS volunteers and youth from different colleges in Mumbai will take part in this event. Students will speak on the topic emphasising the need for `Leadership'' to `Stop AIDS''.

The event will start at 12 noon at the Bedrock Hall (4th Floor).

Mrs. Sangeeta Srivastava, Principal, Sardar Vallabhai Patel Vividlakshi Vidyalaya, Kandivali (W), Mumbai will be the Guest of Honour. Health Camp at Suvidyalaya

IDF organised a health camp at M.H.Chougale Suvidyalaya, Gorai, Borivali (W), Mumbai on 23rd Nov. 09. Medical team from K.J.Sommaiya and Bharati Vidyapeeth University Dental College & Hospital volunteered at the camp. Interns from SVKM Law College and Symbiosys Institute of Media & Communication joined hands with IDF team to organise the Camp.

Health Camp at GMES School

Indian Development Foundation organised a Health Camp for the students of GMES High School, Vile Parle (E), Mumbai on 19 and 20 Nov. General Physicians, Dentists and Optometrists volunteered to help in the camp and did an excellent work in screening the students and creating awareness.

IDF and Halliburton fill colours of happiness

A drawing competition was organized for the children of Vimala Centre at Versova, Andheri (West) in north Mumbai on 12/11/09. The theme for competition was environment, health, safety and security. 60 children from the centre enthusiastically participated in the competition and filled colours to their drawings. The leprosy inmates of the centre also joined to express their talents and creativity.
Panel of judges Mr. Jayakumar, Ms. Rashmi Upase and Mr. Jigmie Gyamtso from Halliburton had a tough time in selecting the drawings as the creativity of the children were at peak. “We are amazed to see the talents of the children and selection of colours are superb”, expressed the judges.
Neha, Sonia, Monali, Preeti, Santoshi, Sahana, Muskan, Pallavi, Siyola, Rushina, Varsha, Shamal, Hasina, Jyoti and Rosa bagged prizes in different categories.Sonal of class five bagged the first prize for visualizing and painting a thematic environment-friendly picture with full of life and colours while Swami got his prize for painting a portrait of compassion.
Dr. A.R.K. Pillai, Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, Dr. Sharad Nayampally and Mr. Sanjay Waghmare from IDF appreciated the efforts of Halliburton Volunteer Council for organizing such a meaningful competition. “Every child is special and they are really the stars on the earth – Taare Zameen Par”, said Dr.Pillai with a smile.
Sr. Mary and Sr. Sisily of Vimala Centre thanked the organizers for giving their children an opportunity to express their passion for art and creativity.
NSS volunteers – Sonia, Melvyn and Jebastin - from Vivek College helped in co-ordinating the event.
Indian Development Foundation and Halliburton jointly organized the drawing competition to mark Children’s Day falling on 14th November - the birthday of Chacha Nehru.

NSS volunteers reach-out flood victims

A two-week campaign mobilizing flood relief materials for the flood victims in Raichur and Bijapur districts of Karnataka got over with an overwhelming response on 10/11/09. NSS Volunteers of Vivek College of Commerce and the young students of Vivek Vidyalaya in Goregaon (W), Mumbai responded to the call given by Indian Development Foundation to reach-out the people affected by the recent floods.

Students enthusiastically brought sarees, T-shirts, bedsheets, blankets and dress materials of daily use as part of their social responsibility to help the needy people and children in Raichur and Bijapur districts, said Prof. P. Thangadurai, NSS Co-ordinator.

Everyone from Vivek Vidyalaya and Degree College, including of the faculty members and the Alumni contributed to this endeavour, expressed Dr. Nandita Roy, Principal of the College. “What is old for us; is gold for them. We are confident of bringing smiles on many who are affected by the flood”, Dr. Roy said.

Mr. Suresh Nair, Principal of Vivek Vidyalaya & Jr. College appreciating students efforts to support the noble cause said, “Our students are always in the forefront to support social programmes initiated by Indian Development Foundation and we thank the team for giving us an opportunity to bring smiles on people who are far away from us”

Dr. Narayan Iyer, National Co-ordinator, IDF congratulating the students and the volunteers said, “It is a great act of kindness shown by the students and volunteers who pioneered to render immediate help to the victims”. Vivek volunteers have been participating in several such relief programmes in the past including tsunami, earthquake and Mumbai deluge, Dr. Iyer added.

Youth of these days are socially inclined to participate in relief programmes and our friends did their best in mobilizing goods for the needy persons, expressed NSS volunteers Sonia, Melvyn, Narayan, Priscilla, Jayanti, Jebastin and others as they appreciated the work done by the college youth and the young school children.

Mr. Umesh Prasanna, Development Officer of Indian Development Foundation will co-ordinate with Rev. Fr. Eric S.J. of Centre for Non Formal and Continuing Education, Loyola School at Raichur and Rev. Fr. Gerold D’souza of Loyola School at Bijapur in distributing the materials to the needy persons in the respective districts.

VRL Logistics provided reduced rates in transporting relief materials to Raichur and Bijapur.

Sapphire's Social Responsibility

The Sapphire School, Ratlam participated in the health awareness programme of Indian Development Foundation.

IDF team thank Mr. Shailendra Gaharwar, Director of the school and the students for participating in leprosy/ TB awareness programme and resource mobilisation drive.
Master Jalaj Chandaliya from class V has been participating IDF's social responsibility programmes and stood as the peak performer a couple of times.

Jalaj will be the first Young Social Ambassador of IDF in Madhya Pradesh.

Halliburton heartens IDF

Halliburton Volunteer Council invited Dr.A.R.K.Pillai and Dr. Narayan B. Iyer from Indian Development Foundation to share the social responsibility programmes of the Foundation with the team.

IDF team explained in detail the humanitarian programmes carried out by the Foundation during the past 26 years and exhorted the Council members to take part in the ongoing social initiatives. "HVC team will be participating in a couple of projects of IDF, particularly children support programme and environmental projects", said Mr.Jayakumar.

IDF team expresses its sincere thanks to Halliburton, Mumbai team for providing an opportunity to bring smiles on many lives.

Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good.

B-School students gear up for social entrepreneurship

A batch of 54 students from Saraswati College of Management from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai travelled all the way to Vimala Dermatological Centre, a leprosy-home, in Versova, Andheri West in North Mumbai to get their practical knowledge in social responsibility aspects on 31-10-09.

B-Schools have the option to choose Corporate Social Responsibility as one of their subjects in the curriculum. The second batch of Mangement students of Saraswati College once again aligned with Indian Development Foundation, a leading national NGO working for health, education and rural development to take them into the pathway of social responsibility programmes.

IDF launches Little Angel Bal Gurukul

Mumbai : Walking through the lanes and bylanes of Pathanwadi in Malad East, one would get a sigh of relief on reaching St.Thomas Mar Thoma School, a temple of education for the local population. It’s just like seeing light at the end of the tunnel, expressed IAF Retd. Capt. S. Balasubramaniam.

IDF team arrived at the School to inaugurate its eighteenth Bal Gurukul at St. Thomas Marthoma School, Pathanwadi, Malad East, Mumbai on 30th October, 2009.

Canara Bank provides a platform for IDF

IDF team comprising Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, Mr. Karthick Sridhar, Mr. Mihir Mungale and Ms. Sneha Chaudhary visited Canara Bank, Mahaveer Nagar Branch, Kandivali (W), Mumbai on 29/10/09.

Mr. R.P. Chavan, Senior Manager of Canara Bank congratulated IDF's humanitarian programmes and exhorted his team to participate in social responsibility programmes.
IDF team apprised the Canara Bank members on various programmes carried out by the Foundation. The team also created awareness on Tuberculosis and its threat to the global economy.

Imagining India

IDF team had the golden opportunity of participating in the 43rd A.D. Shroff Memorial Lecture delivered by Mr.Nandan M. Nilekani, the most famous Indian entrepreneur and Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India. The lecture on `Identity, Markets and Social Welfare' was delivered at Y.B.Chavan Centre, Mumbai on 27th Oct.09. The lecture was organised by Forum of Free Enterprise.
The lecture was full of information with a futuristic approach. Mr. Nandan Nilekani's imagining a new India will come true very soon.
