IDF Dedication in Leprosy Eradication Laudable -

India’s progress in leprosy eradication efforts has been spectacular and the participatory work by governmental and voluntary agencies is laudable, observed Dr. S. Parasuraman in Mumbai on Friday.  We are happy that the cherished dream of the Father of our nation for leprosy elimination has come true, he added.
Dr. S. Parasuraman, Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was speaking as the Chief Guest of Indian Development Foundation’s (IDF) Foundation Day Function at Bhakti Kalakshetra, ISKCON, Juhu, Mumbai on 24th  August  2012.  He gave away IDF Grants to leprosy/ TB hospitals and projects in western region.  IDF has earmarked Grants totaling Rs.75 lakhs to 120 health/ development projects all over India during the year.


IDF Grants Release Function is an annual feature of Indian Development Foundation to share its resources with leprosy/ TB projects and promote self-reliance.  The Distinguished Guests also presented Awards to 25 Principals of Schools in Western zone with star performance record of leprosy awareness programmes and resource mobilisation and  awarded Medals and certificates to 207 students for their signal contribution.

Prestigious MOTHER TERESA MEMORIAL AWARD 2011-12 was presented to Podar International School, Santacruz (W), Mumbai for outstanding resource mobilisation for leprosy/ TB work in western zone.


IDF SOCIAL ACTION AWARDS 2011-12 were presented to Principals and  Teachers for their excellent Social Responsibility during 2011-12. 

IDF Karmayogi Award 2012 was presented to Sr Bertilla, Director, Vimala Dermatological Centre for her sterling contributions in the field of leprosy eradication in India for 42 years.  Her unstinted contributions in the field of leprosy care, treatment and welfare of patients have no parallel and she deserves to be called as Karmayogi, said Dr. Pillai, founder, IDF.

IDF Dynamic Supporter Award was presented to  Armaity Engineer, Principal, Bhaktivedanta Swami Mission School. for supporting five slum schools by providing school furniture for students and staff.

IDF CSR Awards for 2011-12 were presented to 9 Corporate Bodies -  Aditi International, Dominos Pizza India Ltd.,  Halliburton, Mahindra Finance, Nielsen (India) Pvt. Ltd., Parekh Integrated Services Pvt. Ltd., Standard Chartered Bank and Varun Industries Ltd.  - for their excellent participation in social responsibility programmes of IDF.

IDF Best Partner Awards for 2011-12 were presented to  -  Bangur Nagar Mitra Mandal Charitable Trust, ISKCON Food Relief Foundation, Maharasthra Lokahita Seva Mandal, St. Gregorios High School and Rotary Club of Mumbai North End  - for their excellent participation in social responsibility programmes of IDF.

IDF Social Ambassador was presented to Master, Sahil Rupani, Mrs. Neeta Kirit Sanghavi,  Uma Narayan,  Anil Shivdasan, Mr. Bhaskar C. Bhole,  D P Aggarwal,  Vikas Gill,  Aryaman C Pandey and Thomson Kori.
Dr A R K Pillai, President, Indian Development Foundation who presided over the function said the government and voluntary agencies worked hand in hand with admirable co-operation to achieve the leprosy elimination status in India.  Dr.Pillai thanked the public for their understanding and continued support.  Sharing resources and serving others give greater joy and this will be the gospel for the future, Dr. Pillai added.

Guests of Honour - Armaity Engineer, Dr. Radhakrishna Das, S G Nerurkar,  Dr Hari Vasudevan and Dr A P Jayaraman spoke on importance of creating social soldiers who can bring about a social change in the society.  IDF is an excellent platform for young students to develop social temper for the progress of the nation, they added.

Rtn Ved Prakash Dudeja, Trustee, Shri Vile Parle Kelwani Mandal  (SVKM) and Distinguished Guest at the function complimented Indian Development Foundation’s role in India’s fight against leprosy/TB and for widening its activities to include health care, education and development.

Podar International School, Santacruz (W) Mumbai topped the list in resource mobilisation for leprosy/ TB  while the second and third places went to R B K School, Mira Road and St. Gregorios High School, Chembur, Mumbai respectively.  Neev Advani from St. Gregorios High School, Chembur bagged the first position while Smrthi Kartik from D A V International School, Mulund (W) and Aayush Jain from Podar International School (SSC), Mumbai secured second and third positions respectively in the list of students in resource mobilisation for leprosy/ TB work.


Keshav Poduval and team IDF launched an IDF theme song `Come, Lets spread the smiles all around'.

People from all walks of life attended the well organised function. Earlier Dr C N N Nair, Trustee-Treasurer of the Foundation welcomed and introduced the guests, while Rtn. Aunali Rupani, IDF Trustee proposed a vote of thanks.  Dr  Narayan B. Iyer, CEO, IDF compered at the function.  Students from SES Secondary School, Panvel  and Mona Remedial Education Centre, Dadar added symphony to the entire programme. Volunteers from Bhavans College, UPG College of Management and Vivek College of Commerce co-ordinated the event.
