Healthy lifestyle to prevent TB

Mr. Thirugnanam, District Education Officer, Sankagiri, Salem was the Chief Guest for the TB awareness cum food and dress materials distribution function jointly organised by Indian Development Foundation and LRRC TB unit of St. Joseph's Hospital, Chettipati, at the Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Karupur (Tamil Nadu) on the 23rd of June, 2011.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the students should adapt to a healthy life style to prevent widely prevalent Tuberculosis. Unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical exercise and inadequate sleep were the contributory factors leading to poor resistance and succumbing to diseases like TB, he added.

Dr. K. Arunagiri, Joint Director of Health Services (i/c), Salem, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, appreciated Indian Development Foundation for reaching out to the student community with scientific information on Tuberculosis. He emphasised on the importance of regular and complete treatment towards preventing the spread of the Disease.
Dr. S. Franklin, Manager of IDF said that the students have great potential in disseminating scientific information on Tuberculosis and said that IDF will be reaching out to 10 million students for TB awareness during academic year 2011-12.
Dr. Anbu Selvam, Medical Officer of Karupur Primary Health Centre (PHC), said that Karupur PHC had so far (from 2003) treated 497 TB patients successfully and there was no doubt on the effectiveness of DOTs. Mr. Rajamanickam, Govt. Health Educator (Rtd.) spoke on the scientific information on Tuberculosis.
Fr. Johannes Gopu, Director of St. Joseph's Hospital, Chettipatti, Salem, presided over the function Food and dress materials for poor TB patients were distributed. Students who topped in the TB awareness contests were presented with prizes.
Mr. S. Sreeram, Asst. Manager, TN, IDF, Mr. Raju and Mr. Shankar Narayanan from LRRC TB unit, Mr. P. Perumal, HM of Govt. HSS, Karupur also spoke on the occasion. Mr. M. Rangasami, Senior Development Executive of IDF had made all the arrangement for the function.

Green Walk at Chennai Marina

GREEN WALK - WEB ALBUM

"With so many volunteers turning up for the Green Walk, it speaks about the need for awareness on environmental issues, The youth are the key to promoting the cause of environment.", said S. Sreeram, Asst. Manager of Indian Development Foundation.

The Green Walk, jointly organised by Indian Development Foundation and
Standard Chartered Bank, was held from Marina Beach Light House to Labour Statue at 6.30 a.m Saturday morning.

Around 200 enthusiastic volunteers, social ambassadors and champions began lining up for the Green Walk carrying placards displaying environment protection messages early Saturday.

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) together with Standard Chartered Bank have been organising Environment related awareness programmes and clean-up campaigns across 10 major cities in India, starting World Environment Day.

The need of the hour is to create wide-spread awareness about various environmental issues we are facing today. There are simple yet effective means through which each one of us can contribute towards change, the organizers expressed. Social Ambassadors from Indian Development Foundation and Social Champions from Standard Chartered helped in bringing a social consciousness and awakening for the morning walkers and joggers.

A young Green Walker carrying a placard `I'm not an environmentalist. I'm an Earth warrior’said `I am participating in the Green Walk to spread awareness on environment. It is our responsibility to protect nature, plant more trees in our neighbourhood, keep our surroundings clean and conserve water. Imagine a situation when we don't have sufficient oxygen to breathe! Let's plant a tree on our birthday. We need to nurture our nature.

Rotary Club of Hiranandani Estate

On World Environment Day 2011, the Rotary Club of Hiranandani Estate, Thane invited IDF team to address the Rotarians on the social responsibility initiatives of the Foundation.

Dr. A.R.K.Pillai and Dr. Narayan B. Iyer spoke on the health, education and rural development projects of IDF carried out in India.

Rotarian President Shantanu Halder and Rotarian Madhu Menon (Secretary) appreciated the work of IDF and came forward to collaborate with IDF in a couple of social projects.

IDF and Rotary Club will be working on Cleanliness Drive and also on Gurukul projects in Thane area.

Mrs. Sangeeta Shetty, Principal, M.N.Bhatia High School, Kandivali was the special invitee for the social interaction session.

The President-Elect Rotarian M.H.Narasimhan exhorted the people to join hands for a cause and help in building a better civil society.

World Environment Day at Bangalore


Leading NGOs and Corporates championing for social causes came together and organized various activities towards a cleaner and greener city of Bangalore on World Environment Day. The campaign was organized at Doddanna Nagar, one of the biggest slums of Bengaluru.
Master Karan Dravid, 11 years old Student Social Ambassador of Indian Development Foundation, kick started the campaign by administering an oath to a large gathering of slum dwellers, students, and volunteers. The oath was taken to plant more trees, conserve water and keep the houses and premises clean. Mr. A.G. Prakash, Principal of Sree Ayyappan Education Centre, lauded the initiatives and said that a clean environment was the basis for good health, happiness and prosperity. Mr. Rajiv Nair, Manager of Standard Chartered Bank expressed the bank’s resolve to partner with NGOs and reach out to several slums at Bangalore.



The activities included awareness generation, mass cleaning campaign, planting of trees and building fences for the saplings. Earlier an audio visual program on the conservation of water was organized by Ms. Kannika Iyer and Mr. Sudheendra from the bank.


Indian Development Foundation along with Standard Chartered Bank, SHADE and St. Martha’s Hospital had organized the program. Mr. Sampath Raj, the D.J. Halli Corporator, extended necessary support. Dr. S. Franklin, Mr. Kuppusamy, Master. Nischith, Mr. Stephen and Mr. Mathi spoke on the occasion. Hundreds of volunteers from Standard Chartered Bank, NGOs and local residents actively participated.

World Environment Day at Hyderabad

A mass clean-up drive was organized by Indian Development Foundation and Standard Chartered Bank on the eve of World Environment Day – 4th June 2011 at Ambedkar Colony, Elamma Banda, Kukatpally, Hyderabad.

Mr. M M Hussain, Mr. P. Sundar, Mr. G V S Kumar, Ms. Preethy and a batch of 60 Social Champions from Standard Chartered Bank participated in the event.

Mr. Sanjay Ram, IDF Social Ambassador, Ms. Manasi and Mr. Rao co-ordinated with Mr. Kareem (Director) and Ms. Lavanya (Secretary) of M S Foundation who work for slum development projects in Hyderabad.

The program started in the early morning time. People were divided into groups three groups. One group took up slum clean-up drive, the second one went for tree plantation in front of each house and the third took up awareness campaign and distribution of ‘Cotton Bags’ with message ‘Ban plastic and use cotton bags’. Children in the neighbouring areas participated in drawing competition with theme on Environment protection.

Captain (IN) Alokesh Sen, Principal, Birla Public School, Pilani (Rajasthan) and Mrs. Sen were the special invitees for the event.

Mr. Samuel Vincent, Zonal Officer, IDF networked with various agencies in making the event a grand success.

World Environment Day - Mumbai Champions

Indian Development Foundation in collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank organised successful events across India on the eve of World Environment Day 2011 - (04-06-2011) :

1) Juhu Beach-clean up drive was a great success with good number of volunteers turning up to clean the beach. It was followed by a skit on Environment Protection by the IDF social ambassadors.

2) GREEN WALK from R Mall in Mulund to Dream Mall in Bhandup in Mumbai. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in the Green Walk carrying placards with messages on environment. The response was overwhelming and the team took part in street clean-up drive as they walked through the way.
































































It was a convergence of Social Ambassadors and Social Champions to promote social awakening on environment protection.

Shankersai congratulates the Speaker of Tamil Nadu

IDF young social ambassador Master G. R. Shankersai met the Hon'ble Speaker of Tamil Nadu Shri D. Jayakumar and congratulated him on his recently taking over as the Speakership of Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Shankersai apprised the Speaker on the various national level programmes of Indian Development Foundation and also gave particular reference in Tamil Nadu.


Shri D. Jayakumar congratulated the young social ambassador Shankersai for his excellent social concern and appreciated the work of Indian Development Foundation.
