Facts about HIV/AIDS

HIV/ AIDS spreads due to
* Unprotected sexual intercourse. This is the commonest mode of transmission.
* HIV positive mother to child during pregnancy, child birth and breast-feeding.
* Receiving blood transfusion of HIV positive blood.
* Sharing or using infected needles, blades and syringes.

HIV/ AIDS does not spread due to
** Touching, shaking hands, hugging or using the same toilets.
** Sneezing, coughing or eating from the same plate.
** Living in the same house, working together or socializing.
** Mosquito, dog or cat bites.
** Toilet seats

The initiative has now been scaled up to combat other communicable diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, dengue, filaria, and dengue; and other health related issues like reproductive health initiative, malnutrition, girl child health, hand washing, basic sanitation and drug abuse.
