The father of the Green Revolution of India, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan was conferred with Mother Teresa Memorial Award by Indian Development Foundation for his relentless fight against leprosy and signal contribution to India’s agricultural development, at a function organized at MSSR Foundation, Taramani, Chennai on 1st October 2010.
Mr. N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu Group of Publications paid glowing tributes to Dr. Swaminathan for his great national contribution in the area of food security and leprosy elimination. He complimented IDF for strengthening development efforts in India.
Dr. A.R.K.Pillai, founder President of Indian Development Foundation recalled his association with the Working Group on Leprosy chaired by Dr. Swaminathan during the early 80s and the rich contributions made towards achieving leprosy elimination in India. He referred to Dr. Swaminathan as a rare gift of God to the nation.
Dr. Swaminathan, a living legend championing for a hunger-free India, is noted as a world scientist of rare distinction, observed Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, CEO, IDF.
Kalaimaamani Sudha Ragunathan rendered the invocation song at the opening ceremony and enthralled the audience. Mr. E. S. Sumesh, Trustee, IDF welcomed the dignitaries while Dr. S. Franklin, Manager-Southern Region, IDF proposed a vote of thanks.
