Congratulations to OscAR Rahman

Stop TB Partnership congratulates AR Rahman for his Oscar win

23 February 2009 - Geneva - Composer AR Rahman, a long-time TB advocate, was awarded two Oscars last night - one for the best music score and the other for the best song. Both were composed for the international hit movie Slumdog Millionaire, which also grabbed the Oscar for best motion picture."We are delighted to see Mr Rahman--who has campaigned far and wide to raise awareness about tuberculosis--receive this well-deserved recognition for his magnificent music," said Dr Marcos Espinal, Executive Secretary of the Stop TB Partnership.The fast-paced music blends hip hop, Bollywood remix and pop. Rahman has said he mixed the sounds of new and old India to create the score. He is the first person from India to win two Oscars.

Let's checkmate TB

Dr. A.R.K. Pillai, founder President of IDF launched the multi-lingual World TB Day poster on 24/02.
Dr. Pillai said World TB Day is on 24/03 and starting today, IDF is planning for a month-long massive awareness campaign throughout the country.

The multi-lingual TB poster specially designed, gives vital information on the disease. The posters will be distributed to various schools/ colleges/ institutions across India, Dr. Pillai said.

Dr. Narayan B.Iyer expressed special thanks to Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand and Mrs. Aruna Anand for supporting the TB Cause in humanitarian interest. We are indeed grateful to the celebrated couple for coming forward to checkmate TB, said Dr.Iyer.

Issuing a message for IDF's TB awareness campaign, the couple appreciated the wonderful work of the Foundation in humanitarian interest.

Institutions desirous of getting FREE TB posters for awareness purpose may contact IDF.

An act of kindness

Mr. Raju Kurian visited IDF office on 21st Feb., and donated his ambassador car for the rehabilitation programme of the Foundation. The sturdy body ambassador car which is in good working condition will be sent to IDF's Partner Project Sarthak Manav Kushthashram, Jaipur for the rehabilitation of leprosy/physically challenged persons in automobile section.


Dr. A.R.K. Pillai and Dr. Narayan Iyer thanked Mr. Raju Kurian for the wonderful gesture in donating his old Ambassador Car.

That's Perfect Perumbur !!

Railway Mixed Hr. Sec. School, Perumbur, Chennai supported IDF's health, education and rural development programmes. The students of RailwayMixed School participated in various TB awarenes and resource mobilisation programmes.

Yes, we can Stop TB !

Indian Development Foundation (IDF) organised a series of awareness campaigns on TB.
Dr. Narayan B. Iyer addressed the students of J.D. Bharda High School, Grant Road, Mumbai on Friday, 20th Feb., giving scientific information on TB. The students enthusiastically participated in the programme and received Posters for distribution. They all joined together and said `Yes, we can Stop TB’
Principal Ms. Geeta Unnithan and Co-ordinator Ms. Maria D'souza appreciated the work of IDF and assured all support for TB awareness programmes.

Mr. Sanjay Waghmare co-ordinated in organising the awareness programme.

IDF team gears up StopTB Campaign

Indian Development Foundation launched massive awareness programmes on Tuberculosis in various schools and educational institutions in India.


Dr. S. Franklin, Manager-KN, IDF and Mr. Sai Prem Kumar, IDF Ambassador visited a couple of schools and also Mother Teresa Nursing School in Bangalore and talked to the students on scientific information of TB. The students raised the slogan `I Am Stopping TB' . StopTB posters and stickers were issued to the students.

Several thousands of students were involved in the awareness drive.

Visiting TISS was a Bliss

Dr. S. Parasuraman, Director of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) received Dr. A.R.K. Pillai and Dr. Narayan B. Iyer from IDF on 12th Feb. at the TISS Campus, Deonar, Mumbai.

IDF team apprised the Director on the ongoing activities of the Foundation.

IDF team also discussed on the possibility of launching of a nationwide month-long TB Awareness programme starting from 24th Feb. to 24th March. TB is a killer and we can only stop TB by creating massive awareness. 24th March is the World TB Day and let's involve more citizens to participate in the global programme, the team discussed.

Congratulating the work of IDF, Dr. Parasuraman said IDF team will be invited to address the students on various social topics, starting with TB.

Dr. Pillai thanked TISS Director Dr. Parasuraman and also congratulated him and his team for churning out a good number of social workers for this country.

Wisdom is the supreme part of happiness.

I was indeed happy to receive IDF Season's Greeting Card designed by an underprivileged children of the centre, said Mr. Anil Shivadasan, who runs Wisdom Classes for the past 16 years in Mulund (W), Mumbai.

On getting further update on the workings of IDF, Mr. Anil gifted 5 dozens of geometry boxes for the children studying in IDF Bal Gurukuls.

I like supporting social causes. I found IDF projects to be an interesting one and i wish to contribute as and when i can, expressed Mr. Anil. In addition to academics, the children in Wisdom Classes learn music, yoga and personality development programmes. I would be happy to take my students to IDF projects in the near future, Mr. Anil expressed with a smile.

Dr. Pillai and Dr. Narayan Iyer called on Mr. Anil Shivadasan to thank him for his wonderful and kind gesture.

Mr. U. Ramachandran, Director of Suncem was moved by the work of Indian Development Foundation and thought of gifting the old working computers of his company for the benefit of the children studying in IDF Gurukuls. He along with Mrs. Jayashree S. Menon from Suncem visited IDF office and presented 3 old computers to Dr. Pillai.
Dr. Pillai appreciated the kind support of Suncem Team and said `the computers which are old for you are gold for the children in the centre who have no access to such items'.

Dr. Pillai in turn presented a StopTB poster conveying message on Tuberculosis to Lion Mr. U. Ramachandran for spreading the message on TB to the masses.

IDF and NILES bring Smiles at the Queen of Hills

IDF in collaboration with NILES (Nilgiris Leprosy Eradication Scheme) organized a Citizens’ Reach-out programme on 4th Feb. 09 at the Govt. Lawley Hospital, Coonoor, The Nilgiris (TN).

The Deputy Director for TB, Dr. Vasanthan was the Chief Guest for the event who spoke on leprosy, TB and HIV/AIDS. He congratulated IDF and NILES for organizing such a wonderful out-reach programme where citizens mixed the leprosy patients.

Mr. C. Chidambaram, Manager-SR of IDF spoke on the spirit of citizens’ reach-out and the role of IDF in leprosy elimination programme. Mr. Bullmore appreciated the work of IDF and NILES in leprosy/ TB programmes.

Mr. Gibson, Mr. David and Mr. James from the Grace Ministries and Mr. Veerapan, Communication facilitator took part in the event.

Earlier Mr. Jesudas of NILES welcomed the gathering while Mr. Mano Ranjit Lad, FO IDF proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. R. Settu, Co-ordinator (TN & Pondy), IDF compered at the programme while Mr. F. Fredrick, FO, IDF helped in organizing the event.

Indian Development Foundation had organized various events across the country during Anti-leprosy week. This was one of the events where the leprosy patients received gifts and items of daily use. The gifts were sponsored by various well-wishers from Coonoor area.

The students from Mrs. Bullmore’s High School rendered an invocation prayer. The teachers from the school also took part in the event.

Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh supports IDF

Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27-B, Chandigarh has been a great supporter of Indian Development Foundation for several years now. The interact club is very active in this school and they take part in various social responsibility programmes. Principal of the School Mrs. Vineet Arora and Vice-Principal Mrs. Inderpreet Kaur are committed to social causes.

The school team under the able leadership of Mrs.Amarpreet Kaur as the Interact Club Co-ordinator have rendered an excellent support to IDF humanitarian programmes. Interact Club President Apoorva (class 9) and Vice President Karanvir (class 9) motivated the students to participate in social programmes. The schoolteam within a short period of just 3 weeks have voluntarily mobilised a handsome amount for Indian Development Foundation.
Apoorva and Karanvir spoke on behalf of the club and other students of Bhavan Vidyalaya and expressed their happiness for getting a golden opportunity serving the society at large even at a young age. We wish to become young social ambassadors of IDF and continue our support for years to come. At the august gathering of all the students on 6th Feb. 2009, the Interact Club Members presented the donation amount to Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, national co-ordinator of IDF.
Addressing the assembly, Dr. Narayan Iyer expressed his sincere thanks to the Bhavanites for supporting leprosy/ TB programmes. He said, the students are the young soldiers who create salient revolution in social transformation. The students support several causes and unseen people in different parts of India. The solid contribution and student participation in leprosy elimination programmes need to be written in the letters of gold, Dr. Iyer said.

Rev. Fr. P. K. Thomas, Chairman of St. Gregorios School, Dwarka, New Delhi presented voluntary donations mobilised by the students to Dr. Narayan B. Iyer, national co-ordinator of IDF for leprosy/ TB programmes.

MPS team gears up to support social projects

Maheshwari Public School, Jawahar Nagar, Jaipur has come forward to support the leprosy/ TB programmes of Indian Development Foundation.

Mrs. Neelam Walia, Principal of MPS invited Dr.Narayan B. Iyer and Mr. Simon Peter from IDF to address the students on the social issues concerning health problem.

As part of Anti-Leprosy Week, Dr. Narayan B. Iyer sensitized the students on scientific information on leprosy. He also touched upon the problems and threat caused to the world economy due to TB.

The students come forward and joined hands with Indian Development Foundation to support its social welfare objectives.

Universal Sports mark the students social responsibility

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDBP) students of Podar International School, Santacruz (W) in collaboration with Indian Development Foundation organized a Universal Sports Meet on the Martyrs Day - 30th January 2009 at Podar Sports Ground.


The IBDP students, who took up the responsibility of organizing the event, are working on a project titled 'Project Shiksha' which is part of their subject 'CAS' (Creativity, Action and Service).




The participants for the Universal Sports were from four units viz, Vimala Dermatological Center, Versova, Andheri (W) - St. Catherine Home, Andheri (W) - Seth. Anandilal Ganesh Podar Hindi School, Santacruz (W) and Municipal Hindi School, Santacruz (W). A total of 128 students (32 from each institute) between the age group of 8 to 12 years participated in the event.
